The Bakuba Throw is inspired by the rhythmic design of the Kuba Cloth, which has been woven for centuries in Central Africa. Traditionally it was woven from fronds of the raffia palm tree and decorated with natural dyes and embroidery.

The Kuba Cloth is one of the most visually exciting fabrics in the world and has influenced many artists including Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. Matisse was so fascinated by this cloth that he kept a large collection and displayed it on his studio walls.

Our own interest in this wonderful African textile has inspired the design of the Bakuba Throw – a bold, vibrant and yet sophisticated cotton throw.

Woven with 100% cotton

Our Bakuba Throw is woven with 100% cotton grown. Cotton is a wonderfully soft fibre, praised for its durability. A strong colour fastness means your Bakuba Throw will retain its colour well, while its breathability is great for getting the temperature ‘just right’ regardless of the season. Our cotton is grown and spun in Southern Africa, and woven into our range of cotton homeware textiles at the Mungo Mill..

As part of our sustainability objective, we contribute 1% of our annual turnover to our Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative, MOVE, which seeks to protect the environment, and empower the people, of the Plettenberg Bay community where our mill and flagship store is based.
